Ever since the emergence of the first microphone, every microphone has been trying to accomplish the same goal: being able to take varying sound waves in the air and convert them into electrical signals and then record, transmit, or amplify those signals. While all achieving the same goal, there are various styles of microphones that function in different technological ways. This section of the website is dedicated to investigating the different technologies of 6 types of microphones and the roles each of these microphones played in bigger societal changes.
